🇬🇧 Torrevieja honours the Mare de Déu del Carme, patron of fishermen, in the week leading up to 16 July, organised by the town hall together with the fishermen's guild. The date is fixed; the run-up varies. The main day starts at 08:00 with the Diana Musical, a band walking the streets to wake the town.
At 11:30 the port hosts the Cucaña Marítima, a greased pole run out over the water that competitors try to walk to the end of. It is the least solemn thing on the programme and the easiest to watch. In the evening, after mass at 19:00 in the Església de la Immaculada Concepció, the figure is carried through the centre to the port, put aboard and taken out around the bay, returning to the church before a closing firework display.
One act sits apart from the rest. Earlier in the week, a mass is held for the fishermen who died at sea, followed by a floral offering that ends at the Monument to the Man of the Sea with the singing of the Salve Marinera. In a town built on salt and fishing, that is the part the locals turn out for.

Om 11:30 uur is in de haven de Cucaña Marítima, een ingevette paal die over het water uitsteekt en waarover deelnemers proberen te lopen. Het is het minst plechtige onderdeel van het programma en het makkelijkst te bekijken. 's Avonds, na de mis van 19:00 uur in de Església de la Immaculada Concepció, wordt het beeld door het centrum naar de haven gedragen, aan boord gebracht en de baai op gevaren, waarna het terugkeert naar de kerk en er vuurwerk volgt.

A las 11:30 el puerto acoge la Cucaña Marítima, un palo engrasado que se adentra sobre el agua y que los participantes intentan recorrer hasta el final. Es lo menos solemne del programa y lo más fácil de ver. Por la tarde, tras la misa de las 19:00 en la Iglesia Arciprestal de la Inmaculada Concepción, la imagen recorre el centro hasta el puerto, se embarca y navega por la bahía, para regresar después al templo y cerrar con un castillo de fuegos artificiales.
Un acto queda aparte. Días antes se celebra una misa en memoria de los pescadores fallecidos, seguida de una ofrenda de flores que termina en el Monumento al Hombre del Mar con la interpretación de la Salve Marinera. En una ciudad levantada sobre la sal y la pesca, esa es la parte a la que sale el pueblo entero.
