🇬🇧 On 17 May l'Alfàs del Pi celebrates the Norwegian national day, and has done so every year since 1971. Around 2,000 people take part, many of them wearing a bunad, the regional costume whose colours and cut tell you which part of Norway a family comes from. Nothing about the day is military: the children walk at the front.
The morning starts with the Norwegian flag going up at the Norwegian institutions and at the town hall, followed by an open-air mass and then the parade, with folk dancing and marching bands, which ends in an official ceremony at the Casa de Cultura. After that the celebration moves to the municipal sports centre with activities for children. You do not have to be Norwegian to join in, and there is nothing to book: you simply walk along.
The date marks the signing of the Norwegian constitution at Eidsvoll in 1814. l'Alfàs del Pi is home to the second largest Norwegian community in the world after London, with some 2,500 officially registered and an estimated 8,000 in practice. That community has two schools funded from Norway, a club with more than a thousand members, its own church in l'Albir and the only Norwegian volunteer centre opened outside the country.

Er doen zo'n 2.000 mensen mee, veel van hen in bunad, de streekdracht waarvan de kleuren en snit verraden uit welk deel van Noorwegen een familie komt. Militair is er niets aan: de kinderen lopen voorop.
De ochtend begint met het hijsen van de Noorse vlag bij de Noorse instellingen en bij het gemeentehuis, gevolgd door een openluchtmis en daarna de optocht met volksdansen en muziekkorpsen, die eindigt met een officiële plechtigheid bij de Casa de Cultura. Daarna verplaatst het feest zich naar de gemeentelijke sporthal met activiteiten voor kinderen. Je hoeft geen Noor te zijn om mee te doen en reserveren hoeft niet: je loopt gewoon mee.
De datum herinnert aan de ondertekening van de Noorse grondwet in Eidsvoll in 1814. l'Alfàs del Pi herbergt na Londen de op één na grootste Noorse gemeenschap ter wereld, met ongeveer 2.500 ingeschrevenen en naar schatting 8.000 in de praktijk. Die gemeenschap heeft twee door Noorwegen gefinancierde scholen, een club met meer dan duizend leden, een eigen kerk in l'Albir en het enige Noorse vrijwilligerscentrum buiten het land zelf.

Participan unas 2.000 personas, muchas de ellas con el bunad, el traje regional cuyos colores y corte indican de qué zona de Noruega procede cada familia. No tiene nada de militar: los niños van delante.
La mañana empieza con el izado de la bandera noruega en las instituciones noruegas y en el ayuntamiento, sigue con una misa al aire libre y continúa con el desfile, con bailes folclóricos y bandas de música, que termina en un acto institucional en la Casa de Cultura. Después la fiesta se traslada al polideportivo municipal con actividades para los más pequeños. No hace falta ser noruego para sumarse ni reservar nada: basta con acercarse.
La fecha conmemora la firma de la constitución noruega en Eidsvoll en 1814. l'Alfàs del Pi acoge la segunda colonia noruega más grande del mundo después de Londres, con unos 2.500 empadronados y una cifra real estimada de 8.000. Esa comunidad cuenta con dos centros educativos sostenidos con fondos noruegos, un club con más de mil socios, iglesia propia en l'Albir y el único centro de voluntariado noruego abierto fuera del país.
