🇬🇧 The Moors and Christians of Dénia spread across the first half of August, with the main days from the 13th to the 16th. Eighteen filaes, nine on each side, fill the streets between Carrer Diana, Marqués de Campo and the Plaça del Consell. The parades, the entry of the bands, the arquebus battles, the procession and the fireworks are all free to watch from the street.
The act that sets Dénia apart is the desembarco on the 13th at 20:00, when the Moorish side lands on the beach at the Escollera Nord and a truce is signed on the sand. On the 15th at 18:00 comes the gala parade, in which the two capitanies present their boatos: enormous retinues with floats, horses, dancers and staged scenes. Fireworks follow at 00:30 on the Plaça Jaume I.
The 16th belongs to Sant Roc, one of the town's patrons, and closes the fiestas with a mass, the distribution of blessed bread, a procession and the staging of the Miracle of the Mist. If you cannot make August, there is also a Mig Any in February, a half-year celebration with its own programme.
🇳🇱 De Moren en Christenen van Dénia lopen over de hele eerste helft van augustus, met de hoofddagen van de 13e tot en met de 16e. Achttien filaes, negen per kant, vullen de straten tussen de Carrer Diana, Marqués de Campo en de Plaça del Consell. De optochten, de intocht van de muziekkorpsen, de haakbusgevechten, de processie en het vuurwerk zijn allemaal gratis vanaf de straat te zien.
Wat Dénia onderscheidt is de desembarco op de 13e om 20:00 uur, wanneer de Moorse partij landt op het strand bij de Escollera Nord en er op het zand een bestand wordt getekend. Op de 15e om 18:00 uur volgt de galaoptocht, waarin de twee capitanies hun boatos tonen: enorme stoeten met praalwagens, paarden, dansers en gespeelde taferelen. Om 00:30 uur is er vuurwerk op de Plaça Jaume I.
De 16e is voor Sant Roc, een van de patroonheiligen, en sluit de feesten af met een mis, het uitdelen van gezegend brood, een processie en de opvoering van het Mirakel van de Mist. Kun je in augustus niet, dan is er in februari nog het Mig Any, het halfjaarfeest met een eigen programma.
🇪🇸 Los Moros y Cristianos de Dénia se reparten por toda la primera quincena de agosto, con los días grandes del 13 al 16. Dieciocho filaes, nueve por bando, llenan las calles entre el carrer Diana, Marqués de Campo y la plaça del Consell. Los desfiles, la entrada de bandas, las batallas de arcabucería, la procesión y el castillo de fuegos son de acceso libre desde la calle.
El acto que distingue a Dénia es el desembarco del día 13 a las 20:00, cuando el bando moro desembarca en la playa de la Escollera Nord y se firma la tregua sobre la arena. El día 15 a las 18:00 llega el gran desfile de gala, en el que las dos capitanías exhiben sus boatos: séquitos enormes con carrozas, caballos, cuerpos de baile y representaciones teatrales. A las 00:30 hay castillo de fuegos en la plaça Jaume I.
El día 16 es de Sant Roc, uno de los patrones de la ciudad, y cierra las fiestas con misa, recogida de panes, procesión y la representación del Milagro de la Niebla. Si agosto no encaja, en febrero se celebra el Mig Any, la media fiesta, con programa propio.
